I've just had three buff-ish pinky starling sized things over the garden. Everything about them screamed "I'm interesting look at me". Unfortunately, I was slow off the mark. I instantly had that horrible sinking feeling you get when you've just let something good slip through your fingers, in this case by virtue of your bins still being in your bag from yesterday and not on the windowsill where they should be.
I'd bet my bottom dollar they were waxwings. It was one of those moments where your first impression is usually correct.
I'm going looking.
Edit 1600: I've been looking.

Grey Wag at Roneo corner (my first of the year, booya) and some Redwings flying over Hylands park which got me excited for a second before they came down in a tall berryless tree and started calling.
No Waxwings though.
