Today was our annual Breckland bash, with the usual mixed success.
This is a dragonfly.
Lakenheath was muggy, hot and slightly disappointing. Loads of the usuals - a dozen marsh harriers displaying, cuckoos everywhere, 20-something hobbies, a few bitterns, and so on. The only real surprise was a nightingale. We didn't manage to see an oriole or even hear one singing; we had to make do with one calling. Twice. Rubbish.

These are marsh harriers. They are flying.
On to lunch at the stone curlew site (no stone curlews, single yellowhammer) and then to Santon Downham and surrounding area where we saw... nothing. No goshawks, no woodlarks, no tree pipits, no crossbills, no nothing, just garden warblers, blackcaps, garden warblers, more blackcaps, willow warblers, garden warblers and some more garden warblers. Seriously, they were everywhere.
And then I felt ill so we went home. Still a nice day out.
Have a whole load of shitty photos. I mean it, they're shitty, and there's a lot of them.

If you don't like shitty photos of common birds please don't look at the pictures above.
