Lists page, horrible HTML tables, birds.

Someone made a comment on here the other day saying that not only is this page SAD but that it would benefit from the addition of some SAD LISTS. Firstly, I would like to reassert that this is actually a cool hobby for cool people. Secondly, Mr Wanstead, just for you, there is now a whole page of lists. Holy shit. It is tabbed, at the top.

I like to pretend that I don't like or care about listing. I also claim, sometimes, that I don't count them up. Thing is, secretly, I've been caring about, liking and counting up my lists since... well, ever. And maybe I wasn't so secret about it either. I quite like starting new lists, too. I could easily have a thousand lists. Birds seen on the bog (I think everone has this one), birds seen while commuting (added hobby and peregrine from the c2c today at Rainham), birds seen while listening to Gary Moore (just added common tern), etc.

Whatever, the lists I give a mouse sized shit about are up there for all to see. Just don't expect me to go in there, wrestle with shitty HTML tables and update them regularly. Or possibly even at all. I was arguing recently that HTML tables still had some relevance in Internet Websight design and that using them was no bad thing. Having just spent ages doing those lists, in horrible HTML table format, I now accept that I was wrong. God alone knows why I used a table for them, or why, half an hour in, I persisted with it. Utter ballsacks.

Right, birds.

I went to Rainham briefly yesterday late afternoon, spending around an hour heading up to the reedbed and back. There wasn't much about, barring handfuls of cute baby things - tits, chiffchaffs, blackcaps, whitethroats, coots... A couple of hobbys chased the hirundines around half heartedly and kestrels and a sparrowhawk thought about hunting but couldn't really be bothered. It was that kind of afternoon all round really. Not much variety on offer, so I watched an adult male blackcap ferrying beakfuls of stuff to this fledgling for ages.

This is picture that I'm almost happy with. Sure, there are leaves in the way, the composition is rubbish, the ISO was wrong and there are probably a hundred other things on top of which I've not done the editing that I should have done to make the most of the image (damn GIMP), but I'm pleased. A bird that, only a few months back, would have been utterly unphotographable sitting as it was in the middle of a bush had become relatively photographable. Gotta love that spot-focus setting. And knowing how and when to use it, which I didn't a couple of months back... Again, practice seems to help. Shocking.

What a crappy post. I should have spent time working on my BUMSLAP list (Birds Uncovered Making Stupid Lists, Acronymised Puerily)

Ironic. I couldn't get the videos page on the new band website to do what I wanted so I ended up going 'FUCK YOU THEN I'LL USE A FUCKING TABLE TO LAW YOU OUT JAMES IS GOING TO MAKE SURE I NEVER HEAR THE END OF THIS.' Turns our we're both wrong.

Stupid phone. 'law' should of course read 'lay'.
