Not very many birds this weekend, though the ones that there were were a bit good. Hit up my favourite classy Sarf Essix birding location - a layby in an industrial estate just off the A13 - and was rewarded with three, maybe four short-eared owls hunting the scrub. Not classic photos as it was getting pretty dark, but still nice enough. Also present was a stonechat, flyover snipe and a few linnets.
Further round, in a quiet, secluded spot between a stack of containers and a closed-down industrial unit, a seedy looking guy was was just finishing taping black binliners over all the windows in the back of his estate. As we approached, he flashed his lights. I don't think he was birding.
It's been a while since I last saw someone dogging. Maybe I don't go birding in shit places enough any more.
